Low Power FM Organizers Descend on Washington, DC!
Low power FM radio supporters, stations, and friends: we are ever so impressed with you! February 25th and 26th marked Low Power FM Leadership Days -- where everyone from Albuquerque met with Christian rural Georgia broadcasters met with tribal low power pioneers met with New England environmental stations met with youth news, activism, and music makers from Detroit, and more! Over fifty tireless activists for community radio in every American city gathered at a Quaker meeting house two blocks from the Capitol for a day of training and friendship and celebration, before they travelled to the FCC and Congress to fight for their voices on the dial! Read below for more, or take action now at http://www.freepress.net/lpfm or at http://www.prometheusradio.org/take_action! Low power FM stations are one-hundred watt, non-commercial stations, licensed only to local groups in America's smaller towns. But folks from Nashville to New Orleans and beyond are fighting to bring LPFM to big cities, too! When America's big broadcasters convinced Congress to limit low power FM radio to rural areas, they also asked the FCC to prove there was plenty of room for LPFM. We have that proof and are fighting in the FCC and Congress to expand the service to your neck of the woods! Check out http://www.prometheusradio.org/take_action or http://www.freepress.net/lpfm" to tell the FCC and Congress to bring community radio to your area today!

Scott asked Congressman Gordon to cosponsor the Local Community Radio Act, which would expand LPFM to downtown Nashville, cities like Murfreesboro, and nationwide!

Senator Judd Gregg stands with Tim Stone, founder of WSCA-LP in Portsmouth, NH! Tim asked the Senator to cosponsor the Senate version of the Local Community Radio Act -- which passed out of committee last fall!

How did visitors to the halls of power feel about their trip? Here's some quotes from our attendees:

Hector Youtsey, manager and director of KPYT-LP, of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe outside of Tuscon, Arizona:

There are many services available to people in communities all around the country. Many times people don't take advantage of them due to the lack of awareness. Broadcasting on LPFM stations is a great way to let people know about events, issues, programs and assistance available to them. LPFM's are especially useful to Emergency Response Teams. In case of an emergency, LPFM's can quickly and effectively notify its' listeners what to do and where to go.

And, on the experience of meeting dozens of supporters of LPFM, like him and his community:

It was an experience of a life time for me. Effective communication is key to a successful event and from the beginning. A SPINETINGLINGLY THANK YOU!

And stay tuned for more updates on LPFM day and our struggle for community radio nationwide!
