----- Forwarded message from emdahlb@xxxxxx ----- Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2007 16:01:03 -0400 From: emdahlb@xxxxxx Reply-To: emdahlb@xxxxx Subject: Re: Contact at Newspaper(former) To: aminaf@xxxxx Cc: karno@xxxxxxx Amina, Mark Karnowski (Home phone 651.257.2654, Lindstrom, MN)) and I have been working together on and off for a few months to help bring community radio to the Chisago County area. We had been hoping to have sufficient information and resources together in time to apply for a FPFM license during the Oct 2007 application period. However, we found ourselves running out of time to pull this all together, and abandoned the effort. However, we did agree to continue working towards the goal of bringing Community radio to our county of residence and to look at the possibility of starting with LPFM as a way to begin bringing local programming and information to the residents of opur area. Historically, there were three radio stations that provided Chisago County residents and visitors with local information (WCMP in Pine City, KABG in Cambridge and WLKX in Forest Lake). All three radio stations have since been purchased by outside groups and have abandoned their original mission and have thusly left Chisago County without an electronic vehicle for the dissemination of local news and educational information. We had also begun to work with the Chisago County Historical society as a potential partner in the process of making community radio a reality here in Chisago County. They see this as an opportunity to get their story of the culture and history of this beautiful area out to the residents as well as visitors to this area. We support heartily your efforts to modify existing laws to allow for additional LPFM licenses to be issued, and to streamline the process by which groups such as ours can achieve their goals in a more timely and less expensive manner.
