|
July 1, 2007 From Seacoast Online: Movers and Shakers Radio founder was part of FCC localism hearing PORTSMOUTH — A founder of Portsmouth Community Radio, WSCA-LP, 106.1FM served as a panelist in a Federal Communications Commission public hearing in Portland, Maine recently. Timothy Stone, a founding member and trustee at WSCA-LP, took part in the hearing on localism in the media. Other panelists included university professors, commercial television and radio broadcasters, newspaper publishers and other community radio volunteers. The FCC held the hearing to gather information from consumers, industry, civic organizations and others on how broadcasting companies serve local communities. Along with competition and diversity, promoting localism is a key goal of the FCC’s media ownership rules, according to an FCC press release. Portsmouth Community Radio, WSCA-LP, 106.1 FM is a nonprofit, volunteer-powered, mixed format, low-power station serving the Seacoast community and streaming on the World Wide Web. |
