WORT hosts the Grassroots Radio Conference 

Madison's community radio station WORT hosted the eleventh annual Grassroots Radio Conference over the last weekend in July at locations throughout the city. Consisting of members of the Grassroots Radio Coalition, the gathering brings together volunteers from community radio stations across the nation to discuss the current state of their medium amidst an increasingly concentrated media universe. Workshops focused on matters ranging from technical infrastructure to fundraising to the activities of the FCC.

Ernesto Aguilar, the program director for KPFT in Houston, noted the conference, writing it was "lots of fun." WORT's music director Sybil Augustine also shared her thoughts on the gathering:

Our conference is over, and was very successful and fun! Music directors from several stations shared tips, questions and different strategies for dealing with many aspects of our jobs. We had a lot of folks from small start-up and/or low power FM stations who didn't know how to get music for their station and had been borrowing and burning donations from listeners to build their libraries. Others of us who have been around for a decade or more were trying to figure out how to get through the massive amounts of music sent to us, and make sensible charts and decisions regarding all the CDs people are tracking and bands who want interviews and airplay.
