| How do I apply for LPFM? |
The AnswerThere are two main hurdles for most people thinking about applying for a LPFM. One is to find a location where the transmitter and antenna can be. You must have permission to use this location, and it must meet the FCC requirements for distance from other radio stations on the same or adjacent frequencies. To get your co-ordinates of your building where you want to put the transmitter, and find your altitude, and other answers for the tech box go to: [http://www.prometheus.tao.ca/fcc.shtml] For general technical info about the station and the application, go to [http://www.prometheus.tao.ca/requirements.html] The second main hurdle is finding a suitable organization to apply for the license. Details about his are available at www.prometheus.tao.ca/faq_nonprofit.html Here is a very helpful link with a .pdf of a fully filled out application, and an instruction manual on the non-technical parts of the application. [http://www.microradio.org/apply.htm] This page explains the electronic filing process, and has links in it to the form itself [http://www.mediaaccess.org/programs/lpfm/efile.html] The application must be submitted in the filing window, but you can go there and work on it right now. You read the instructions, go to the login page, and set up an "account" and choose a password. Then you can work on the application anytime (today, tomorrow, whenever). The only thing that happens during the filing window is that you go back into the account, with your already completed application, and click "submit." I recommend starting very soon, because you may run into some unexpected detail (for example, the mailing address of a board member, or your height above seal level) that will take you a couple of days of phone tag with someone to clear up. It doesn't take very long if you have all the answers. is our website, with all kinds of helpful stuff about the application process. Call us anytime 9am- 11PM and we can help you work through it. |
